Witte Lelie
It's always fascinating when a place has a story...
Even before 1900, there was an important inn here, near the main tram stop. Until 1886, you could even take the stagecoach to Brecht from here. So it was a meeting place in the village.
It was valued as ‘Hotel De Kroon’ and later renamed Hotel De Witte Lelie. When the building on the right was demolished to create a passageway to the supermarket behind it, a blind façade remained to characterize the streetscape.
With the new residential project, we refer to the volume of De Witte Lelie, but we seize the opportunity to bend the street. In this way, we can not only densify but also bring the green area behind it into the street scene. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
The gaping hole that had been created by the functional access road to the supermarket is now becoming an elongated square with trees, a meeting place tailored to the village, inviting people to enjoy the green surroundings.
On the street side, there is space for commercial use, but the square is bordered by residential properties to add a homely feel. Parking is allowed here, but with respect for the residents.
Red-brown local brick, tone-on-tone roof tiles, wooden windows, slightly different railings, balconies, tiled gardens, etc. reinforce the residential identity of this place and thus help to slow down the pace and regain a bit of village life. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
